Kenya’s leading mobile operator Safaricom is reportedly planning to build a submarine cable called Daraja, which will run 4,108-km from Mombasa (Nyali) to Salalah in Oman. Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) has been awarded the contract to design, build and install the Daraja subsea cable, according to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) filed with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), and the cable is expected to go live in 2026. Notably the 2Africa cable currently under implementation also has landings in both Mombasa and Salalah.
